Design Inspiration: Pottery Barn Home Accessories

I love Pottery Barn anything.

My wallet, however, does not. In an effort to have Pottery Barn home in an economic downturn, I've been scoping some PB accessories that are easy DIY projects. I'll post tutorials as I begin creating these items myself, but here is a glimpse of what is to come:

I have been searching for the right item to work into my kitchen on the wall space next to our china cabinet. For this project, I am going to start with a frame and it's glass pane. Matching chalkboard paint on both the frame and glass with fun quotes of those I admire should serve this space well!

I love these knob hooks. Deck finials from Home Depot stained and sealed will serve as our materials. I plan to use these for coat hooks just inside our garage door entrance.

These pillar candles are going to be recrafted with white pillar candles, decoupage, an with lace or another similar textured material.

Who doesn't have papers to keep handy? Invitations, permission slips, paint samples, recipes, oh my! For these boards, I am going to take regular cork tiles and cover them with a thin layer of batting and a neutral fabric. They are going to hang over the desk in our guest room and hang more artistic items, like post cards, photos, small maps, and great quotes.

Admittedly, this last project doesn't have a home yet, but it will soon. I am focusing on the row of brightly painted numbers hung vertically on the far right. These would be a great fit for a narrow space, like a column or other oddly shaped space. I saw these same wooden numbers at Hobby Lobby, just waiting to be painted!

Instant Pot Chicken Marsala

Day two with my Crock-Pot Express (CPE), aka Instant Pot. Tonight, we are making Chicken Marsala, one of The Captain's favorites. Since I'm preparing to get back into the 21 Day Fix starting on January 15 (with the new 80 Day Obsession plan!), I'm going to enjoy the chicken and green beans only, while the rest of the family will have egg noodles with their chicken. I found a simple enough recipe on Pinterest that I'm going to adapt to work for our family's tastes a little bit better. Here is the plan: Ingredients: - 2 lbs chicken thighs, boneless, skinless - 1 T olive oil - 1/2 t garlic powder - 1/2 t salt - 1/4 t black pepper - 1/2 yellow onion, diced - 1 pint sliced baby Bella portobello mushrooms - 1 c Marsala wine - 1/4 c chicken stock or broth - 1 T minced garlic Instructions: - Set device to “Sauté” and add oil. Allow to heat for 1 minute. - Season chicken with salt, pepper, and garlic powder - Add chicken to pot and sear meat for 3 ...

Instant Pot Spaghetti and Meat Sauce

Raise your hand if you LOVE washing dishes? Yes? Then this recipe isn't for you. Because dinner is done in one pot. Set it and forget it while you change into something more comfortable after a long day. Ingredients: 1 lb. ground beef 1/2 onion, diced 2 c broth or water 3 c (24 ounces) pasta sauce (marinara or tomato sauce recommended) 1 lb. any pasta (I used whole wheat high protein spaghetti) 2 T Italian Seasoning 1 t Onion Powder 1 t Garlic Powder 1/2 t salt 1/4 t black pepper Instructions: Set your pot to "Saute" and cook the ground beef, breaking up with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Add the onion to the ground beef and they will cook together. Once it is cooked through (about 4-5 min), do not drain out the fat. **If you prefer to use frozen meatballs, skip the above steps, start with the meatballs in the bottom of your pot, then go from here:  Mix in all seasoning (Italian seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper) Layer in ...

Instant Pot Thick Greek Yogurt

We are Greek, yet I have never attempted to make my own Greek yogurt (I know, *gasp*). We are Fage faithful purchasers, since this is what my husband and I both grew up and deem "the real stuff." But since our Crock-Pot Express joined out family at Christmas, I decided it was time to try it out. Worst case, I was out a half gallon of milk. This recipe was a huge (good) surprise though! Perfect tart taste and thick, creamy consistency. Ingredients: 1 half gallon of milk (use can use any fat level, I used 2%) 3 T of Fage Plain Greek Yogurt (be sure it says "Live Cultures" on the container) Instant Pot or Crock-Pot Express Cheesecloth Mesh Strainer or Colander Digital Thermometer Large Bowl Hel pful Tip: O nce you start making your own yogurt, save 3T of your last batch to add to the new one as your “starter”.  I like to freeze it as a yogurt cube, then I never have to worry about saving some. Instructions: Starting with a...
